Expansion of the Gotthard capacity. Both tubes of the Strassentunnel will be two-lane each. This doubles the capacity and eliminates the bottleneck. To achieve this, the alpine protection article that currently limits the capacity will be adjusted.

But if we invest the money already, we can also finance investments in public transport by selling the service "Passage through the Gotthard" in a market‑appropriate way, instead of leaving a tunnel empty. And congestion is not environmentally friendly, nor does it promote people's satisfaction. You can still set an upper limit on passages. And set it so that there is no more congestion.
• ↳ N. P. (2026-09-10): Der Transitverkehr hat sich seit Eröffnung sowieso mehr als verdoppelt (+146%) - ohne dass die Kapazität erhöht wurde. Und das sind meistens PW: LKW sind drastisch zurückgegangen seit 2000 (-40%). Es bewegen sich einfach mehr Personen, das können wir nicht ändern, und sie haben auch das Recht dazu. Und der klarer Trend zu mehr Elektrofahrzeuge wird die Luftbelastung stark reduzieren.
