Since the year 2000, the population of Switzerland has also grown by 1.8 million people – an increase of 25.4%, which corresponds to 4.3 times the population of the city of Zurich. Combined with the decline in agricultural land area, this has led to a decrease in the per capita available area by almost a quarter (22.6%) – from 14.9 to 11.6 ares (1 are = 100 m²), i.e. by 337 m² per person.
