More space to live? Since 2000, the demands per resident have grown much more slowly.
By 2021, the average living space had risen to 46.6 m2 (+2.6 m2), since then it has stagnated (2024: 46.6 m2). The economic monitoring of the Canton of Zurich shows that between 2013 and 2021 in larger cities such as Zurich, Basel-Stadt, or Geneva, the average living space per resident has decreased. Due to population growth and changing lifestyles, however, the demand for additional living space has increased.
