Three quarters of Switzerland's greenhouse gas footprint occurs abroad.
According to the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN), the greenhouse gas footprint in 2023 was around 14.8 tons of CO₂ equivalent per capita (t CO₂eq/capita). About 25% (3.7 t CO₂eq/capita) of this was due to emissions domestically and around 75% (11.1 t CO₂eq/capita) to emissions abroad.
