At the same time, total electricity production (excluding pumped storage) in Switzerland grew from 63,373 GWh (2000) to 76,237 GWh (2024). The share of wind energy in total electricity production thus increased from 0.005% to 0.224%. By comparison, the share of solar energy in electricity production in 2024 was 7.82%. According to data from Suisse-éole, the technical parameters of wind turbines have also changed in recent years. In 2000, 5 wind turbines with a capacity of over 150 kW were in operation in Switzerland; by 2024, this number had risen to 47. At the same time, the average installed capacity per plant increased from 561 kW to 2,136 kW. The average full load hours of these wind turbines also increased from 1,166 to 1,698 hours over the same period.
