Compared to neighboring countries, Switzerland has a high share of transit traffic in freight transport: in Austria this share is 39%, in Germany 12%, in France 11%, and in Italy 0%. The comparatively lower values in neighboring countries can partly be explained by their access to the sea as well as the shorter length of their land borders. The different country sizes also contribute to these differences.
